When Jonas Salk developed his polio vaccine at the University of Pittsburgh in 1952, Richard King Mellon offered his children to be vaccinated first to drive the inoculation campaign. Mr. McGough added that in addition to holding a seat on the Mellon Bank board and serving as President of Richard K. Mellon and Sons, Pross Mellon was active in several planning, and development boards and was a trustee of several of the family's charitable foundations. With, Mellon National Corporation, Pittsburgh, 1965-1969; Mellon also used his economic power to push companies and landowners to comply with new regulations. A significant number of these awards were made to organizations engaged in public-private partnerships that enrich all facets of life in southwestern Pennsylvania.
